Formed in 2007 by brothers Nick and Ben Batton, Chil got their start in the suburbs of Akron, Ohio. Chil’s composition includes singer and guitarist Nick and drummer Ben. Chil was joined by guitarist Ian Minnick in 2012. 

From their first shows in Kent, Ohio to the release of their first album, Only Good Karma in 2012, Chil’s sound has morphed from pop-punk to a cohesive blend of indie, rock, and even EDM music that creates a sound unique to Chil.

Following their pioneer album, Chil released Keep Us From Sinking in March 2014. From 2014-2015, Chil released three singles produced by Forever the Sickest Kid’s Austin Bello, and in April 2016, No Sleep, No Silence, also produced by Bello, marked Chil’s third album release.

Chil’s success does not end in Northeast Ohio. The band has played shows from Indiana to New York, and has radio play from six countries in Europe, in Canada, and in the US.

Chil traveled to England to record with producer Al Groves (Bring Me the Horizon) in 2018 and created the songs Beautiful Mess and Gold Skies / New York City. 

In 2019, Chil was brokenhearted by the loss of guitarist Ian Minnick. Now the band continues to share their music in his memory. Chil returned to the studio with Austin Bello in 2024 to create the next evolution of their sound. 

Chil does not credit a single source for their musical influence, but rather, embraces a variety of artists and genres to inspire their own unique sound. Chil looks forward to continuing to play shows and sharing their music with as many people as possible.
